UNO IN A NUTSHELL
the And I Must Scream game could be based off Harlan Ellison's short story I Have No Mouth And I Must Scream. The robot could be resembling AM, The antagonist of the story who was a robot who evolved and killed off humanity except for a select few that he kept alive to torture out of hate. All of the character wish for death but the robot keeps them alive regardless through various measures. Eventually an opportunity arises where 2 of ths characters fight and they kill eachother, followed by the main character killing his love interest out of love (meaning he can't take his own life anymore, subjecting himself to eternal torture) and he remains the only human alive, permanently doomed to torture. this may be why in the game the word guilt arises and he brings flowers to a grave. buuuut this is just a wild guess
